::sings:: It’s the most…wonderful time…of the year!! So by now, you should know that I love lights!! City lights, Christmas lights, bright lights…all of the above. Last year, I visited St. Augustine’s Night of Lights in the historic district during the holidays, and it was amazing! You know this event has to be a big deal if it made it to National Geographic’s Top 10 Best Holiday Lighting Displays in the world for 2 consecutive years!! If you’re looking for something different to do this holiday season, St. Augustine is where you need to be.
Unfortunately, I was unable to capture the magic on camera, but a few photos, as well as additional information, can be found here [I’m going to take pics this year and upload them so check back for updates]. All of the buildings in the district are decked with lights and can be viewed by foot, trolley, or horse & carriage for those of you that may want to cuddle up with your boo. Last year, the line for the trolley was ridiculously long, so we ended up walking everywhere. I’ll be going again this weekend, so I plan to arrive early and purchase my ticket as soon as I get there. The tickets are $12.99 for adults, $5.99 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under 6. There are a few places that offer free parking – the Old Jail and both Welcome Centers. Parking is also available in the downtown garage, but if I’m remembering correctly, it cost about $20.
Night of Lights runs through January 31st, so you still have time!! If money is an issue, but you still want to attend this festive event, omit the trolley ride. I promise it won’t take away from the event; you’ll have just as much fun. If you arrive early enough, you’ll be able to take advantage of free parking. Avoid the temptation of spending money at nearby restaurants by eating before you leave and packing snacks. Night of Lights is one you won’t regret, and as long as I’m in Florida for the holiday season, I will be in attendance every year! This is one you wouldn’t want to miss!
